What does the Executive do?
- They hold meetings early in each half of the old school
term
- They hold focus meetings as necessary
- They meet with a group of the Elected Members of the Select
Committee for Children and Young People late in the first half of
each term
- They attend Annual Conferences jointly with the LA and Elected
Members in the Autumn Term
- Various members have joined with LA personnel to help formulate
and consult on documents such as Appraisal, Exclusion / Inclusion,
Governor Training, Complaints Procedures, Fair Funding, School
Organisation Plan, Use of School Premises, Admissions, Budgets,
Racial Equality and the Disability Discrimination Act, Special Needs
Review, Children and Young People Plan, Schools Forum, Extended
Schools, PRU management etc
- They have also been invited by the LA to take part in key
appointments to the LA. Various members are invited to
interviews with OFSTED Inspectors of the LA , when appropriate
- Your elected Parent Governors who sit on the Select Committee
for Children and Young People are invited to be Executive members
- Our views are actively sought on the contents of the Governor
newsletters and the Chair’s / Clerk’s bulletins
- We contribute items to the Governor newsletter to keep you
informed
- We support and help with Governor Training such as Induction
days
- We support and help with Governor recruitment
- We are currently reviewing our communication methods, to and
from Governors, to enable us to improve on our existing practices
- We liaise with other Governor Associations at National
Conferences and meetings for exchange of views, ideas and to debate
common issues
- We have produced a model Code of Conduct for Governors which all
Governing Bodies may adopt, or adapt to their needs, if they wish
- Some Executive members have taken on the role of Additional
Governors to try to help and support schools and Governing Bodies
who need extra support and have produced with the LA an information
leaflet on this for Governors who take this on
- We are represented on the School Organisation Committee, the
School Forum, the Admissions Forum and the Pupil Referral Unit
management committee
- In liaison with the LA we are represented at the DfES/ OFSTED
Conferences held in various parts of the country
- We attend meetings of the F40 group to try to get fairer funding
for South Gloucestershire from central Government
- We worked with the LA on a review of Clerk’s fees
- We are members of the National Governor Association through
which we can make your views known to the DfCSF on behalf of South
Gloucestershire. They regularly communicate with us and ask us for
responses to consultation papers, which a sub-group of the Forum
undertakes to do
- We represent South Glos. Governors at National Governor
Association Conferences whenever possible and attend their Spring
Conference and the Autumn Conference and AGM in London.
We attend regional meetings of the National Governor Association
held in the West of England , which gave us even greater liaison
with other local Associations.
We can make your views known, locally and nationally, if YOU make
them known to US !! South Gloucestershire Governors need to be involved.
