Governor Training

All courses in the Governor Development Programme are free to governors at subscribing schools. Bespoke training on can be arranged, at your own school, if you can find another school to partner with.

Health and Safety training is provided by the Health and Safety Team.  Governors may book on relevant courses, with the agreement of the Head Teacher, at no charge to the school. South Gloucestershire Governor Standard

The South Gloucestershire Governor Standard is a self evaluation tool for governing bodies. Written to closely mirror the SEF (Self Evaluation Framework) document in your school, the Standard will help governors assess how effectively they are working, against the key OFSTED headings.

Evidence identified when completing the Standard can be cut and pasted directly into your SEF. The idea is that the Standard becomes part of your annual monitoring cycle, rather than being an extra task that you could do.

A facilitated 2-hour meeting will result in a summary of findings, key areas for development and a set of priorities for your governing body to work on. It is then up to the governing body to decide how it will continue to monitor these important areas of work.

The Governor Standard is free to all subscribing schools.

Modern Governor

Modern Governor is an on-line e-learning package that is available to all governing bodies.  E-learning provides the opportunity for your governors to learn about the various aspects of governance, in short sessions, at a time to suit them.

Subscribing schools can take advantage of a discounted rate of:

Leadership and Management in South Gloucestershire

A key priority within the Department for Children and Young People is to develop the capacity for high quality leadership and management across South Gloucestershire in order to raise standards and improve the quality of teaching and learning by:

·      strengthening the capacity of school governors to fulfil their strategic and accountability roles;

·       developing the capacity of school staff at all levels in schools and within the Department for Children & Young People;

·       strengthening the capacity of senior leaders and managers to bring about change and improvement in outcomes for all students;

·      improving the capacity of schools to become increasingly effective in identifying and addressing the training and development needs of staff in order to raise standards;

·      developing strategies to share experience and good practice, including networks between schools, clusters and communities in order to develop innovative and effective practice.

Governors need to take advantage of the learning opportunities available and encourage the ongoing professional development of all staff in their schools.
