Welcome
to the section looking at all areas connected with School Improvement.
The Education Act of 2002 states, 'The Governing Body shall conduct the
school with a view to promoting high standards of educational
achievement at the school'
The Governing Body is strategically well-placed to oversee how their school
is developing. That is their main function. An effective governing body
will be aware of the context in which the school operates. The focus of
school improvement is now firmly set on school self-evaluation. School
self evaluation and the school improvement plan take precedence over
inspection as the means of raising standards. Ofsted explains that
'school self evaluation is a continuous process that is complemented
from time to time by external inspection' (Every Child Matters;
Framework for the inspection of schools in England from Sept 05).
